Community Borrowers, SCONUL Access users and students registered under the Reciprocal Agreement are provided with a library ID number and a password that gives them access to their library account in MetSearch, the Library catalogue.
You can access MetSearch on and off campus to search for resources without signing in. However, it is recommended that you always sign in to MetSearch so you can:
All External Borrowers have access to MetSearch and can use it to search for physical and online resources.
We recommend you sign in so that you can access your library account to check your loans and their due date, and reserve books.
To sign in, click the Sign in link at the top right-hand side of the MetSearch screen.
Select Guest – Community Borrowers, SCONUL and Reciprocal Borrowers in the pop up window.
Enter the Username and Password. You received the credentials in your registration email but you might have changed your password since.
When you are signed in, your name will display in the top right corner.
Use the search box to search for resources using keywords such as part of the title and/or author.
Limit your search to Physical Resources.
You can also filter your results using the Tweak my results menu on the right-hand side.
Items displaying as Available can be loaned immediately from the campus library detailed. E.g. items Available at Cyncoed Main Shelves are available for immediate loan from the Cyncoed Library.
Items displaying as Checked out are not available for loan at the moment but are held at the library listed. E.g. items Checked out from Llandaff Main Shelves are based at Llandaff Library, but at the time of your search all copies are on loan.
You can reserve any physical items and collect them from either Cyncoed or Llandaff library. To reserve an item, click on the Available at or Checked out from link.
Click on Reserve @ Cardiff Met. You will only see this link when you are signed in.
On the request form, select the Pickup Location. Add a comment if necessary. Then click on Send Request.
When the reserved item is ready to collect we will notify you via email. You will have one week to collect it from the chosen Pickup Location.
Due to licensing restrictions, only current staff and students have access to our full collection of online resources. However, some electronic resources are published under an Open Access agreement and are freely available online for anyone to read and download.
In addition to this, some of our licensed e-resources are available under the Walk-in Access scheme.
To find Open Access resources, use the search box to search for resources using keywords such as part of the title and/or author.
Limit your search to Online Resources.
In the Tweak my results menu, select Availability – Open Access.
Open Access resources are identifiable by the open padlock symbol.
Click on the Online Access link.
In the View Online section, click on the available hyperlink. Some resources may be available from more than one publisher.
