The University Library participates in two external borrowing schemes granting students and staff access to library collections at other institutions: the SCONUL Access scheme and a reciprocal borrowing scheme with three other local institutions.
Both schemes are offered at no cost.
We aim to process new applications within one working week. All applicants will receive an email notification regarding the status of their application.
SCONUL Access enables users of university libraries to access study spaces or use books and journals at other libraries within the scheme.
All our students, staff and researchers are eligible to apply for SCONUL Access. For more information and the application guidance visit the SCONUL website.
Successful applicants will be sent an email containing their SCONUL Band (A, B, C or R), the expiry date of their access and instructions on the subsequent steps.
Applicants can use the same confirmation email to register with multiple institutions. It is the applicant’s responsibility to check the registration requirements at the visiting institution.
Borrowing privileges differ between institutions with full-time undergraduate students typically having reference access only.
Cardiff Met has a Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme with Cardiff University, the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) and the University of South Wales (USW).
This scheme enables full-time undergraduate students to join the library at the participating institutions, to access their spaces for study and to borrow up to two items.
To apply, complete our online application form.
Successful applicants will be sent an email containing instructions on the subsequent steps.
Membership lasts to the end of May of the current academic year and can be renewed in the following year.
