Journals and eJournals

On this page:

Journals are an essential part of academic literature and will form part of your studies at university.

A journal article can be out within months, allowing research and development that is current to be out and available for academics and students to access and use. Journals can be published weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually.

Cardiff Met Library currently holds over 120 thousand journal titles in its collection across all knowledge areas, almost all of which are accessible online. Users can also access some journals in print form on campus. However, print copies are not loanable.

Print Journals

Print journals are available at Cardiff Met Cyncoed and Llandaff campus libraries. These cannot be borrowed but are available for your use in the library.  You can search and access them using MetSearch.

The easiest way to find print journals is by searching in MetSearch by subject.

To limit search results to print journals held at Cardiff Met libraries, use the filters on the right of the search results screen: 'Held by library' (under Availability) and 'Journals' (under Resource Type).

Further information on searching for Journals and other resources can be found in our comprehensive Using Metsearch guide.

eJournals

Cardiff Met provides access to thousands of ejournals from a variety of publishers and platforms. You can search and access them using MetSearch or browse them using individual ejournal databases, which can be found listed in the Databases A-Z. The library subscribes to over 40 ejournal collections and databases with ejournal content. The Databases A-Z can be searched by 'ejournals' for the full list.

The easiest way to access ejournal articles is by searching in MetSearch by title, author, or keywords.

To limit search results to 'ejournal articles' and/or 'ejournals', use the filters on the right of the search results screen: 'Online Access' (under Availability) and 'Articles' and/or 'Journals' (under Resource Type).

It is possible to download ejournal articles and read offline and in the majority of cases you can save an article as a PDF.

Further information on searching for journals and other resources can be found in our comprehensive Using MetSearch guide.

Ejournals may also be browsed using BrowZine, allowing you to access and browse ejournals from different publishers in one simple interface. BrowZine is not a replacement for MetSearch. It is one way of accessing our ejournals but is not designed for in-depth searching or research – use MetSearch for that. Also, Browzine does not include all our ejournals, content only goes back to 2005. The same content, plus older content, is also available in the Journal Search. For more information on using MetSearch, the Journal Search and BrowZine, consult our informative guides.

For further help with any of the above, come along to the Library Services' workshop sessions which you can book on to via MetHub. Alternatively, contact us to arrange a 1-2-1 session with one of our Academic Librarians.
