We have a mix of single and group study spaces at Cyncoed and Llandaff Learning Centres to suit different studying styles and preferences.
Group and individual study spaces are provided in our designated 24/7 "warm spaces" at the front of the Library. You can access power for your devices, one day laptop locker loans, snacks, hot drinks machines, and cold water dispenser. There is also a designated quiet computer room. The back of the library is a designated quiet study space which includes desks for small group work, individual desks for lone studying, and a single-seat quiet booth.
Alongside our school teaching resources, the first floor School Experience offers ample group study space for all our students in this room full of natural light. The space includes soft seating for groups and individuals, and power for your devices.
Brand new for Autumn 2023 is our refurbished first floor Research Room. Alongside our print journal collection, this bright and warm space offers a choice of seating designed for quiet individual study.
The ground floor of the library serves as a designated 'warm space' and is accessible 24/7. It is well-equipped and comfortably furnished for both individual and group study, with power outlets for personal devices as well as PCs and Macs and two Multi-Functional Devices for printing, copying, and scanning.
A bookable study room is available for a small group work.
The main Library Helpdesk, located by the entrance, provides assistance and support during staffed hours, offers one-day loans of phone chargers and complimentary headphones.
Within the concourse, visitors can access self-service kiosks for borrowing and returning library books alongside a Metsearch point to search for items in the physical collection. Additionally, there's a Lapsafe terminal where students can borrow laptops for short, on campus use.
Other facilities include a cold-water dispenser, and vending machines stocked with hot and cold beverages and snacks.
The first floor provides access to the first half of our Book Collection, DVDs, individual study spaces, a designated Quiet Study room and a bookable study room.
There is also the IT suite equipped with both PCs and Macs stations along with power outlets for personal devices. In the IT suite you will find two bookable study rooms, several teaching rooms and Multi-Functional Devices for printing, copying, and scanning.
Technology Support Helpdesk in the IT suite assists with any IT-related inquiries, including support for Microsoft Office accounts, Wi-Fi connectivity, software downloads, and long-term laptop loans.
The second floor is home to the second half of our Book Collection, the Journals Collection, the Clinical Practice Collection and our Over-Sized books.
There are individual study desks as well as group working spaces mainly designed for reading and the use of personal devices.
This floor also houses the Special Collections, and a non-bookable quiet study room.
There are five study rooms available in the Learning Centre at Cyncoed. These are all located on the 1st floor with connected displays available in rooms 1, 2, and 5.
There are four study rooms available in the Learning Centre at Llandaff.
T1.01a and T1.01b are located in the IT Suite on the first floor and equipped with 2 PCs.
L1.04a is on the 1st floor in the Library and is aimed for quieter work.
L0.06 is located on the ground floor of the Library.
L1.04a and L0.06 have a wall mounted screen.
Book a study room through Cardiff Met's Connect2 system.
The system allows you to check room availability and manage your upcoming booking. To access the system, navigate to Connect2 and sign in with your student ID and password.
Your booking will be confirmed via email.
The study rooms can be booked by students Monday – Friday, 9am-5pm.
You can make 2 x 2-hour bookings per day.
You are allowed to renew bookings up to 15 minutes before the end of the booking if the room isn't booked by another person.
Bookings are available up to 4 weeks in advance.
These rooms are open and can be used by anyone if they are not booked. However, we recommend booking beforehand to guarantee your use of the room.
Please remember to cancel your booking if you no longer need the room. Should you arrive 30 minutes later than your reservation start time, we reserve the right to release the room to other students.
