FAQ

1. What I can request?

We can supply the following material to you for the purpose of supporting your private study and non-commercial research at Cardiff Metropolitan University:

  • Books and ebook chapters*
  • Journals and ejournal articles*
  • Conference proceedings and papers*
  • Some Theses, (mainly from UK and the US).

*Under UK copyright law you are only able to request: one ebook chapter per ebook; one ejournal article per ejournal issue; one conference paper per conference proceeding. If you require more then please request the whole book, journal or conference proceeding.

We cannot obtain material to support your work at other universities / workplace or to support any commercial research.

2. How soon will my request arrive and how will it be delivered?

Where possible we will seek to supply items to you electronically within 3 working days. We will email you with an access link to your request and guidance on how to access it. If you need any help please contact us.

If it is not possible to supply what you have requested electronically, we will seek a print copy from another library for you to borrow. Please allow additional time for the item to be posted and delivered to Cardiff Met Learning Centres before querying the status of your request with us. Typically, this can take up to 7 working days to arrive. When it does, you will be notified by email and can collect the items from our staffed Library Helpdesks during Opening Hours. Print interlibrary loan items cannot be issued on the self-service machines and should not be returned to a book box.

3. Can I renew my interlibrary loan?

Whilst it is possible to renew a print interlibrary loan the renewal is at the discretion of the lending library.

If you wish to renew, bring the item to one of our Learning Centres and talk to our staff. We will need to retain the item until the renewal has been agreed.

As soon as we have arranged a renewal, we will contact you by email with the new due date and you can collect the book.

4. How do I contact you?

You can contact the Interlibrary Loan Services team via the following email address: Ddelivery@cardiffmet.ac.uk

If you have a general query about an interlibrary loan request you have made, a member of library staff in the Learning Centre will also be able to assist you.

You can also check on the status of your interlibrary loan request under ‘My Requests’ in your library account
