Engagement

Analytics

To monitor how students engage with your lists, click on the Analytics (bar chart) icon displayed on the right pane of each list.

You can view the following metrics related to the list:

  • Active students - unique students who used the list in any way
  • Total full text access - the number of times students opened links to electronic resources, with multiple clicks by the same student counted each time.
  • Number of loans - the number of times an item was loaned during the course dates, which counts all loans by all staff and students, not uniquely your module students.

Similar metrics are available at item, or citation, level.

Analytics are updated daily, so you can revisit regularly to view student engagement throughout the term.

Mark as Done

Students can mark items they have finished reading by clicking on the tick icon next to an item. The item will be crossed out, making it easy for students to visually track their progress.

Students can also use the list Filter to look for items marked as done or as incomplete.

You can view the number of students who have marked each item as done using the Analytics (bar chart) icon, as above.

Student Favourites

Leganto provides a personal citation library, or Favourites, for students, as well as instructors.

To store items within Leganto, students, when viewing a citation in a reading list, should hover over the citation, click on the ellipsis Item menu and select Save as favourite.

The item is then copied to their Favourites on the left-hand tab.

Student Suggestions

Students can suggest items for a reading list.

To add a suggestion, from the students’ Favourites, as above, students should click on the citation’s ellipsis Item menu and select Suggest item.

Students are then prompted to select the appropriate reading list, add a note and click Suggest.

You can see all students’ suggestions in the Suggestions panel to the right of your list. If you wish to add suggested items to a reading list, you may do so by dragging them to the list.

Annotating PDFs

Students may engage with and collaborate with course materials by annotating PDFs on reading lists.

From the View PDF page of a citation, you will see the option to enable or disable Public Annotations. If you leave this enabled, you and your students can make notes on the PDF visible only to you, or they can comment, discuss and collaborate with all module participants.

To add comments, highlight the part of the text you wish to annotate and click the Comment icon. Comments added to PDFs in this way exist only within Leganto and cannot be exported.
