Reading lists for students

Leganto is Cardiff Met’s online reading list system. Reading lists provide quick and easy access to resources recommended by your lecturers.

On your reading list you will find details of the books, chapters and articles you are expected to read in preparation for lectures, seminars and assignments.

Your Leganto reading lists allow you to:

  • directly access online resources, including ebooks, articles and databases
  • see live availability and location of print books in the Library
  • link to external web pages and embedded multimedia
  • access scanned extracts of key readings recommended by your lecturer
  • save favourites, mark items as done and keep track of your reading

Accessing your lists

You can access your reading list from the relevant Moodle course or by signing in to MetSearch and clicking on the “Reading Lists” link at the top of the page:

You will find all your reading lists in the Lists section. To access the content of a list, click on the title:

Most lists will be split into sections, such as Required, Recommended or Further reading but there may also be sections for weekly reading or for specific lectures, seminars or assignments:

You can see whether each item is available online or where you can find it in the library:

Mark items as done

You can use Leganto to keep track of what you have and haven’t read. Click on the tick to the left of an item to mark it as ‘done’:

It will then appear as crossed out on your list:

Favourites

‘Favourites’ allows you to create your own collection of resources from reading lists or any other online source. To add an item from a reading list to Favourites, click on the three dots next to an item and select Save as favourite.

To add items from MetSearch, search library resources for items held in our collection. Click on the title and choose the Leganto option in the Send to section. Select Favourites and then Add to reading list.

You can also add items to Favourites from websites. To do this, you will need to add the Cite It! button to your browser bookmarks. Click on your name in the top-right of the screen, click Cite It! and drag the purple button which appears in the pop-up screen to your bookmarks bar:

When you find a relevant item listed on a website, click on the Cite it! button and a pop-up will appear. You can then add it directly to Favourites.

Language settings

The Leganto interface can be viewed in either Welsh or English. To select your language preference, click on the Settings cog in the top right of the screen and select English. A Choose your language box will open. Select Cymraeg and Cau.

Accessibility

It is possible to configure the accessibility settings in Leganto to set the font size and contrast:

Click on the Settings cog in the top right hand corner and select Accessibility settings.

Select your desired font size, preferred site contrast, how long to display a feedback message, and select Close. Your settings are applied
