You can borrow 30 books.
You MUST have your MetCard with you to borrow books.
Use MetSearch to search for the item you would like to borrow, go to 'Get It' and then click 'Reserve @ Cardiff Met'. You need to click on 'Sign in' in MetSearch before you can reserve items. You can request to collect your reservations at either campus, or, you can choose to have it posted by clicking 'Home Delivery'. If you would like your reservations to be posted, please write your postal address in the notes field.
If your loans have not been reserved by someone else, they will be automatically renewed on a weekly basis. You can still renew online by using the 'My Account' option on MetSearch. You will need to click on 'Sign in' first before you can access your account on MetSearch - use your IT username and password to login. After you sign in, click on 'My Account' which brings up your current active loans and select 'Renew All' to renew your items. If an item has been reserved by someone else, the status will say "Not renewable - contact library" and you will need to bring it back by the stated due date.
We can also renew items for you at the library helpdesk if you phone us, or via email.
Items can be returned to either of our two Learning Centres via self-service or at the library help desk. If closed, please use the book boxes outside each entrance. You can also return by post. Please email to request the freepost address label.
Please note: All inter-library loans MUST be returned in person to a member of staff at a Library Helpdesk.
You only need to return books if they have been reserved by another borrower. You will be e-mailed to notify you of this. You will then need to return the books by the due date stated.
Please note: You will receive a Library Account statement on the 2nd of the month, if you have any loans. This does not mean the items need to be returned
Contact your campus library either in person or via email in the first instance.
There is a standard replacement cost of £50 for a lost or damaged item. If an item is worth a lot more than £50 then we reserve the right to charge a higher replacement cost.
As an alternative you can replace the lost item with a new copy or good quality second-hand copy - as long as it matches the edition you have lost.
Cardiff Met has a Reciprocal Borrowing Scheme with Cardiff University, the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama (RWCMD) and the University of South Wales (USW). This scheme enables full-time undergraduates of Cardiff Met to join the library at the participating institutions, to access their learning centres for study and to borrow up to two items.
Applicants should have a good borrowing history and no outstanding library issues.
If you wish to apply, please complete our online form.
Successful applications will be forwarded to the relevant libraries who will then be in touch with you directly with information on the next steps. If your application is turned down we will let you know.
Membership lasts to the end of May of the current academic year and can be renewed.
All students, researchers and staff can apply to join the SCONUL Access Scheme, which provides access to study spaces, books and journals at other libraries participating in the scheme. Visit the Sconul website to apply.
If you have any questions or need any further information please ask library staff or email library@cardiffmet.ac.uk
